Sandra Bärnreuther is a senior lecturer and Ambizione research fellow at the Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies, University of Zurich and an associate member at the Research Center “History of Knowledge.” After studying at the University of Muenster, Delhi University, and New York University she received her PhD from the South Asia Institute and the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” at the University of Heidelberg. Sandra taught at the universities of Heidelberg (2011-2013), and Chicago (2014), she was a visiting research student at Jawaharlal Nehru University (2011-2012) and the University of Edinburgh (2013), and a research fellow at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advanced Study (2016) and the University of Oxford (2018). Over the last years, she conducted long-term ethnographic research and archival work on reproductive medicine in India. She has published several articles and just completed a book manuscript entitled “Substantial Relations: Making Global Reproductive Medicine in Postcolonial India.” Currently, she is working on a new research project about the transformation of social service delivery in India.
